How Much IPTV Costs Per Evening You Actually Watch

One stream on Zyminex costs $15 a month, or $69 if you buy the whole year at once. Spread across the year, that is about $5.75 a month, or 19 cents a day. Those are the only figures on this page that are ours to set. Everything else below is arithmetic, and it takes a couple of minutes to redo it with your own habits.

The daily figure carries an assumption, though: that the television goes on every single evening. It rarely does. A plan left unopened through July costs more for each evening you did spend in the guide, and a single month bought for the weeks you know you will watch can work out cheaper per evening than a year you hardly touch. So this page counts in evenings, and in the extras that never appear on anyone’s price list.

Start by counting your evenings

Take an ordinary week and count the evenings the set goes on for something you picked from the guide, as opposed to something an app put in front of you. In plenty of homes the answer is four or five. A shift worker might manage three, at odd hours, and pick up the rest the following morning from the catch-up archive. Someone who only watches through the football season, or through the long dark evenings of winter, may have whole months at zero.

Then divide the plan price by that number. The table does it for a single stream, on the assumption that the plan is used from its first day to its last (a month is counted as 30 days, and figures are rounded to the cent).

Two things stand out. Reading along any row, the longer term is always cheaper per evening, provided you keep watching. Reading down any column, how often you watch moves the figure far more than which term you chose: a weekends-only viewer on the annual plan pays more per evening ($0.66) than somebody who watches every night and pays month by month ($0.50).

When a shorter IPTV term is the cheaper buy

Nothing on Zyminex renews by itself. When a term ends the login stops and nothing is charged, which makes it perfectly reasonable to buy only the months you will use.

• The year breaks even at 4.6 months. Twelve months at $69 cost the same as 4.6 single months at $15. If you would otherwise buy five or more separate months in a year, take the year. At four or fewer, do not.
• Three months cost a dollar less than two. At $29 the quarter undercuts two single months at $30, so if a second month looks likely, the three-month plan is the cheaper way to get it.
• Six months equal three single months. At $45, the half-year plan has paid for itself by the fourth month you actually watch.
• A seasonal viewer can skip the summer. Six months at $45 cover October to March. The alternative is $69 for a year that includes six months you will not open.

The price list, turned on its side

A stream is one picture playing at one moment. Installs are unlimited, so one login can be installed on the stick in the lounge, the TV in the spare room, a laptop and a couple of phones; the tier only decides how many of them may play together. Every tier carries the same 25,000+ channels, the same guide and the same 120,000+ films and series.

On the annual plan the second stream adds $50, the third another $40, and the fourth and fifth $80 between them. The cost per screen falls as the count rises, but that is no reason to buy screens you do not use together. Count the ones that are genuinely on at the same moment in a normal week; a tablet that only ever plays when the television is off costs nothing extra on a one-stream plan.

What IPTV costs outside the subscription

The subscription is the only recurring cost that comes from us. The rest depends on what is already under the television, and in a lot of homes it comes to nothing at all.

Three homes, costed for the first year

These are worked examples rather than customers. Swap in your own hardware and habits.

Year two is where the sums settle. The hardware is paid for, and what remains is the subscription plus, for the second home, TiViMate Premium, which works out at about 22 cents a day for both together. The two-television home pays about 16 cents per screen per day.

Why a list sold far below this stops working

You will see years advertised elsewhere for the price of a takeaway. They usually work on the day you pay. What they have not paid for turns up later, and most of it turns up in the guide before it reaches the picture.

• Guide data is maintained, not free. Thousands of channels each have to be matched to their listings, and the matches need fixing whenever a channel moves. Where nobody is paid to do that, whole groups read “No information”.
• Catch-up is storage. Keeping yesterday’s programs playable means recording them and holding them on servers for days. It is the easiest thing to drop without announcing it.
• Evening capacity is the expensive part. Servers have to be sized for the hour when most people watch rather than for the daily average. An oversold list looks fine at noon.
• Resold accounts end together. Many cheap lists are resold access. When the seller upstream cuts the reseller off, every account stops on the same evening, and there is nobody left to ask.

A “lifetime” offer is the same problem stretched further, because nobody can promise permanent access to channels they do not own. Our longest term is twelve months, on purpose.

Spend the free 24 hours on the guide

The trial runs for 24 hours with no card, and a picture that plays is the least of what it can tell you. Use the time on the things you will lean on every evening once you have paid:

1. Open the guide at the hour you usually sit down. The channels you care about should show program titles, not blank rows.
2. Find a channel marked with the archive or clock icon, choose something that aired earlier that day, and play it from the start.
3. Check the listing times against the clock on the wall. If they are an hour out, correct the device’s time zone first and the player’s guide offset, if it has one, second.
4. Star thirty or forty favorites. If you cannot find that many worth keeping, no price is low enough.
