Installation, then the guide
Decide: login or playlist
If your player offers both an Xtream option and an M3U option, take Xtream every time; it is the one that brings the guide and catch-up along with the channels. Keep the M3U link for players that understand nothing else, such as VLC, Kodi with its Simple Client, or Smart IPTV on a Samsung or LG. Both open the same account and differ only in the wrapper, so one screen can use the login while another uses the playlist, within your plan's limit on streams at the same time.
Find the Xtream option under its local name
Players label it differently. In IPTV Smarters the button reads Login with Xtream Codes API; in TiViMate, under Add playlist, it is Xtream Codes login. Plenty of other players cut it down to Xtream or just API. If none of these appear anywhere in the player, it takes playlists only, and the M3U guide covers that case.
Type the server URL, port included
This field causes more failed sign-ins than the other two combined. It opens with http://, carries the address, and ends with a colon and a port number, for example http://example.com:8080, and the port is the last thing in the field. A slash, get.php or a username after it will break the sign-in. If you pasted the M3U link here by mistake, cut everything from /get.php onwards.
Enter the username and password exactly
Both are case sensitive. Copy them from the WhatsApp message if the device lets you, then check the end of each field, because text lifted out of a chat often drags an invisible space along, and the server counts that space as part of the password. When in doubt, type them. A capital O against a zero, or a small l against a capital I, are the usual suspects.
Name the profile after the room
Whatever you type as the profile or playlist name stays on your device; the server never sees it. Put it to work anyway. Living room or Bedroom tells everyone in the house which profile they are opening, and it saves confusion later if a player ever lists more than one login.
Let the first sync run to the end
Saving starts three downloads: the channels, the on-demand titles and the listings. Channels appear first; the listings take longer, a few minutes over a full line-up. Resist signing out and in while this happens, which only restarts the download from the beginning.
Match the listings to your clock
Program times travel with the guide, and the player shows them against the device clock. If everything is an hour out, set the time zone on the device first. Touch the player's own guide time offset, if it has one, only when the device is right and the listings are still out.
Keep the three details where you can find them
With the three details to hand, a new screen is a one-minute job; without them, it means waiting for a reply on WhatsApp. Keep the activation message, or copy the details somewhere private. Treat them like a bank PIN: whoever holds them can use your streams, and your plan limits how many play at the same time.
Check it against tonight's listings
Before closing the settings, check four things. The channels are there, sorted into their groups. The guide shows now and next across the channels you watch. The times agree with a program you know. And on a channel carrying the archive icon, a program from earlier today plays from its start. That last check proves the login is doing what an M3U link usually cannot.
Problems we see on this one
Login refused although the details look right
Hunt for the invisible differences: a trailing space after the password, a capital typed in lower case, a letter O standing in for a zero. Retype both fields by hand. If it still fails, check when the plan runs out; the activation message states the date. An account past its end date refuses the same details that worked yesterday, and renewing on WhatsApp brings them back unchanged.
Server address rejected or timing out
Check its three parts: http:// at the front, the port at the end, nothing after the port. The most common mistake is pasting the whole M3U link into the server field; everything from /get.php onwards has to go. The second is leaving out the port, which sends the player to the right building but the wrong door.
Signed in, but the guide stays empty
The listings follow the channels. Wait five minutes, then run the player's own guide update, or sign out and back in once. If the guide is empty on one player and full on another with the same login, the fault lies in that player's settings, not in the account.
Catch-up on one screen but not the other
Check how each screen was signed in. Where catch-up works, it is almost always the Xtream login; where it does not, it is usually an M3U link or a player with no catch-up feature. Sign the second screen in with the Xtream details and the archive icons appear on the same channels.
A new screen stops another one
The limit on your plan is simultaneous streams; the number of devices holding the login is up to you. When a third screen starts on a two-stream plan, one of the others drops. Close the player on screens nobody is watching, or move to a tier with more streams.

Is an Xtream Codes login legal?
The login format itself is ordinary technology: a standard way of handing a player three details, supported by mainstream apps in every app store. The format is not where the legal question lies. Xtream login or M3U link: what actually differs?
They unlock one account in two ways. The login is three details a player uses to ask the server for channels, listings and archive information. The M3U link is one long address that returns a list of channels, with the guide usually added separately from an address on the same server ending in xmltv.php. Use Xtream wherever the player allows it.
Can one Xtream login run on several devices?
Yes. Install the player and sign in wherever you like; installs are unlimited. The tier you chose decides how many streams run at the same moment, so every device can hold the login while only that many play at once.
Where do I find my Xtream details?
In the WhatsApp message sent when your plan was activated. It holds the server URL with its port, the username and the password, plus the M3U link for players that need one. If the message is lost, ask on WhatsApp and the details can be sent again.
